Refrigerator Rolls

 

2¼-ounce packages dry yeast

2 cups water

½ cup sugar

2 teaspoons salt

6½ cups flour, divided

1 egg

½ cup solid shortening

Dissolve yeast in water

  1. Add sugar, salt and ½ cup flour to yeast. 

  2. Beat 2 minutes. 

  3. Add egg and shortening. 

  4. Gradually add remaining flour until smooth. 

  5. Cover with a damp cloth and refrigerate 3 hours to overnight. 

  6. Pat down occasionally. 

Take out 2 hours before baking

  1. Make into desired shape. 

  2. Place in greased pan and let rise for 1½ hours. 

  3. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes.
